Issue/Addressing target databank instability

Links to records change all the time. Experience reviewing the current LSRN and NCBI registries show substantial numbers of broken links. What to do about this. What are strategies for handling this.

  • Automatically monitor - Use a system such as nagios to, on a regular basis, probe sample records from each databank, checking that they return expected content. Notify sn curators when they don't so that they can be fixed.
  • Encourage the creation of mirrors of databanks whose licenses permit this. Possible organizations: Google, Internet Archive, shared names contributors.
  • Where possible collaborate with providers to provide stable URLs
